Regional Recaps 4SHOT Hoops Style!

Class 5-A

 

Region 8-5A

Up late night!
Meadowcreek 68 South Gwinnett 55

The Comets from South Gwinnett would battle the Mustangs from Meadowcreek to try to win their fourth consecutive regional title. Only thing is the Comets would be faced with being up late night and you that means with Chris Allen aka “The Chris Allen Show”. Chris coming off a 31 point game (20 in the second half on a 21-6 run) over Brookwood, would do one point better with 32 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals. The Mustangs finish the season with a record of 22-6. The next big thing Teondre Williams also cashed in with 23 points and 10 rebounds. A new champion is crown for the first time in 3 years, congratulations to Meadowcreek and coach Billy Davis on a job well done. Meadowcreek will host Chattahoochee in the first round.

Region 7-5A

24 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists
Norcross 75 Peachtree Ridge 62

In the championship game between the Norcross Blue Devils and the Peachtree Ridge Lions, “That Boy” Jodie Meeks would go off for a triple double to lead Norcross to back-to-back regional championships. Meeks finished with 24 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists. Gani Lawal aka “The Walking Man Child” proves why he is ranked the number 2 junior in the state via 4SHOT Hoops Blazing 50 with a monster 29 points, 15 rebounds and 4 Blocks. Norcross will play host to cross town Brookwood Broncos in the first round.

Region 2-5A

Tri-Cities 68 Redan 56

 

The Redan Raiders returns to the regional championship but would have to face a hungry Bulldog team from Tri-Cities.  Junior forward Recentae Harris would lead the charge for the Bulldogs with 15 points. The last minutes of the game would prove to be crucial for Redan as the Bulldogs would be fast pace as they would go on an 13-2 run. Tri-Cities finish the season at 26-2 and will play Lowndes in the first round of the state tournament.

Class 4-A

Region 8-4A

Cedar Shoals 109 Clarke Central 103

 

Always doing it big in Athens, Georgia. The Cedar Shoals Jaguars would have to go through 2 overtimes to pull off the regional championship against cross town rivials the Clarke Central High Gladitators. Chris Kupets would be the leading score for the Jaguars with 31 points. Next up for Cedar Shoals will be Ridgeland in the first round of the state tournament.

 

Region 6-4A

St. Pius 55 Tucker 54

 

The St. Pius Golden Lions would pull the upset on the number one ranked Tucker Tigers. The Golden Lions would win it by free-throws from Spencer Davidson with 11 seconds left in the game. “King Supreme” Cameron Tatum would finish with 19 points for Tucker and Aaron Parr led St. Pius with a team high 16 points. St. Pius will see South Atlanta in a tough first round draw. Tucker will play host to SW Dekalb on friday at 7:00.   

 

Region 5-4A

Columbia 60 Miller Grove 45

 

The one loss Columbia Eagles at 27-1 would come back from 15 points in a battle tested third period to win by 15 points. The Eagles Jeremy Price (UGA Signee) led his team with 18 points.  The Eagles will welcome North Forsyth to try to break the 26 game winning streak in the first round of the state play-offs.

Region 4-4A

Douglas County 71, Alexander 51

The 4SHOT Hoops number 12th ranked player in Juan Jones would put up 22 points, along with teammate Ricky Dobbs 22 too clinch the Region 4-AAAA title.  The Tigers will move on to face Upson Lee in the first round at home Friday Febuary 17 at 7:00 pm.

Class 3-A

 

Region 5-3A

MLK 56 Druid Hills 40

 

Langston Williams would be the high scorer with13 points as MLK would get a victory over Druid Hills to capture the third place spot in the region and go on the road to play Cartersville in the first round.

 

Class 2-A

 

Region 8-AA

Buford 58 Wesleyan 43

 

What a year Buford and Wesleyan are having. Buford enter the game off the upset of number ranked East Hall to face the Wesleyan Wolves who no one picked to make it to the Finals. With both teams earning spots in the state tournament, the regional tournament would go to Buford behind 19 points from Terrance Birdette and Cam Sherman 12 points. Buford will face Laney out of Augusta in the first round.

East Hall 84 Lumpkin County 42

East would revenge the upset loss to Buford with 42 points blow out of the Lumpkin County Indians for the consolation third place in the region. The Vikings Walter Hill would led the team with a game high 32 points.

 

Region 5-AA

Lovett 50 Grady 36

 

Lovett has been too much for teams all year, as they have won 23 of 26 games on the season. The 23rd victory would be against Grady in the regional championship, lead by Sterling Mack with 13 points. Lovett will play Calhoun in the first round of the state playoffs.

 

Decatur 51 Walker 47

Decatur hasn’t been playing bad all year, as they would claim the third place spot and a shot in the first round of the playoffs against Coosa. Sam Shew would lead the Bulldogs with 18 points in the victory.

Class 1-A 

Region 5-A

Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy 73 Whitefield Academy 60

 

The regional championship between SACA and the Wolf Pack of Whitefield Academy was nothing but a regular season rivalry games of the private schools. With Whitefield entering the game on a game high upset of class 2A powerhouse East Hall, the game would have to be taking serious by the Warriors. The Warriors would feature 4SHOT Hoops number one player in the state Javaris Crittenton but the night would belong to Danny Friend would seal the victory behind his game high 24 points.

 

Greenforest Christian 75 W.D. Mohammed 68

Greenforest has been played well all year and squeeze the 7point victory behind the scoring of Chris Griffin with a team high 23 points. W.D. was lead by Mustafa Salaam with 23 points.  The third place winners, Greenforest will see Temple in the first round of the state and W.D. will play Bremen.

 

Region 8-A

Athens Academy 45 Lakeview Academy 38

Brandon Edwards and Charles Matthews would play match point, scoring identical 13 points each to beat the Lions of Lakeview. Athens Academy move on to play Warren County and Lakeview will play Hancock Central.
