Regional Recaps 4SHOT Hoops Style!

Class 5-A

Region 8-5A

Shiloh 40 Brookwood 36

When it came to being in the finals of the region 8-5A championship, didn’t anyone pick the Shiloh Lady Generals but the parents. The Lady Generals would have to first believe in themselves, as they battled back from a 16 points halftime deficit. It was only right all-state performer Courtney Strauthers hit a clutch basket with seconds left to send the Lady Broncos packing. Shiloh plays host to a scrappy Mill Creek team in the first round, while Brookwood will have to face North Gwinnett.

South Gwinnett 55 Grayson 43

It was only right that Alex Winchell continue her all-state junior campaign, by leading the Lady Comets in scoring over Grayson for third place.  Grayson will have the hardest first round draw against defending champs Collins Hills, while South Gwinnett will play Dacula.

Region 7-5A

Collins Hill 75 Dacula 28

The 2005 Champions of 5-A would have no problems with the ladies from Dacula as they have only lost one game this year and looks to be the favorite to repeat. 4SHOT Hoops player of the year in 2005 Maya Moore would score a game high 23 points in the victory. The Lady Eagles will take on Grayson in the first round while Dacula face South Gwinnett.

Region 2-5A

Stephenson 52 Morrow 30

The Stephenson Jaguars makes moves and push pass Morrow to win the region 2-5A title behind the scoring of Jylisa Williams and Jasmine Smith with 10 points each. The Jaguars seem to be on course to make their run in the state tournament, up next Tift County on Saturday. Morrow will welcome Colquitt County for the first round of state.

Redan 54 Douglass 45

Without all star / McDonald all American candidate Porsha Phillips in the line up. The Lady Raiders of Redan needed someone to step up to bring home the third place trophy. That person would be 4SHOT Junior Anelia Murray would torch the Douglas Lady Astros for 31 points. Next for Redan a trip to Lowndes County and Douglas a trip to Houston County.

Class 4A

Region 5-4A

Mays 52 North Clayton 23

In the region championship game between the Lady Raiders of Mays versus the Lady Eagles of North Clayton, the future North Carolina State Wolf Pack signee Nikitta “The Great” Gartrell would score 23 points to match the Eagles total score. Next up for Mays will be Tucker in the first round of the state tournament. North Clayton will host Etowah in its first round meet.

Class 2A

Region 8-2A

Wesleyan 62, Greater Atlanta Christian (GAC) 59

Elise Whitney would score 12 points as Wesleyan Lady Wolves would again beat cross-town rival GAC for the regional championship. Wesleyan will host Westside Augusta for the first round of state. GAC will welcome Oglethorpe County on Saturday.

Region 5-2A

Pace Academy 43 Holy Innocents 36

Pace Academy has been playing well all year. No better way than to finish the season but with the regional championship. Lauren Falohun finished with a game high 19 points and the Lady Knight season ends with a record of 20-5. Pace will host Coosa for the first round playoffs. Holy Innocents will  welcome Armuchee for the first round of state.

Class 1A

Region 5-A

Landmark Christian 41 Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy (SACA) 40

The regional championship between the Lady War Eagles of Landmark and the Lady Warriors of SACA was nothing but a good ole rivalry game that went down to the wire. 4SHOT very own Briana Brown would score a game high 17 points but it wouldn't be enough as the Lady War Eagles squeeze by with a one-point victory. SACA plays Bremen in the first round and Landmark will challenge Trion.
