Tigers with 9 lives

Cameron Tatum the long range hunter.

The Tigers Den - Tucker High School

If it’s not called a rivalry game, well maybe it’s called a revenge factor. The last time these two schools met up was in the first round of the 2005 state football tournament, with SWD pulling an upset over the number one ranked Tigers. Would the same thing happen in basketball?

The Tucker Tigers, last years Class 4-A runners up would enter the game off a tough one point loss to St. Pius 55-54, giving the Tigers their only region loss of the season. Cameron “King Supreme” Tatum ranked number 3 via 4SHOT Hoops Burning 50 would finish with a game high 37 points.

The Southwest Dekalb Panthers on the other hand would bring their 22-6 record into the Tigers Den with a close two point victory over South Atlanta 45-43. The Panthers would feature 4SHOT Hoops 19 ranked player in Brandon Hazzard 11 points and Jeff Fernandez who would finish the game with 14 points.

The Panthers look to duplicate a back-to- back upset, as they were behind majority of the game but stepped it up after the half. The Panthers would go on a 17-2 run 6:05 left in the game to give them an 11 point lead 56-45.

After the Tucker time out by Coach Hartry, things would then get rolling. The Tigers would force 24 turnovers and the Panthers would shoot 3 for 17 at the free-throw line.

With 1:32 left in the game, Cameron Tatum would go to the line to tie the game at 58 a piece. With a 1:03 left in the game Mike McGhee would get a put back basket to put the tigers up 60-58. After the miss free throws by the panthers, Tatum would go in for the windmill dunk to seal the victory 66-58 and the crowd would storm the floor. SWD goes home and Tucker moves on to the second round to face Murray County.
