4SHOT Sports Kut's Korner - "Kut" Brenton Butler ON Da Bricks (Point-Man) Taking a break On Da Bricks to chat with Norcross High point man Brenton Butler, we hooked up on da bricks to see how lil country goes big city. Brenton is ranked 26 in the state via 4SHOT Hoops Burning 50. Brent: The choice was made freely. I had Florida State looking at me very strong but you have to look at your situations and how you fit in with programs. You say to yourself I am going to be here four years and take in to consideration the situation at hand. I love the city, New York is the place to be, I got to meet the players and felt comfortable with team. Kut: Last year you guys went undefeated before losing in the 2005 State 5-A championship game to Wheeler High School. What was it like going into that game and after? Brent: Going into the game that’s what you look for to win it all, the championship game. We were set to win it, Jodie and myself talked about bringing home the ring all year. Going in the game 31-0 and losing that one game is tough. I would swap all 31 wins with loses if we could have won just that one game. It hurt but that’s just going to give us that determination to get back at it this year. Kut: What does it mean to be the point man? Brent: Well it means a lot, you have to put your scoring to the back and set the offense through passing. I try to enter the game with the mentally of getting my assist numbers up and my scoring will come. As a point guard you have to verbalize yourself on the court and let everyone no what we need to do in certain situations. Kut: Who is one of the toughest players you ever had to guard? Brent: Well I have guarded Louis Williams so you can put him up there. I would say the toughest by all means is Javaris Crittenton (Ranked #1 via 4SHOT Hooops Burning 50) from Southwest Atlanta Christian. Kut: What’s the difference in AAU ball and high school basketball? Brent: Well like Louis stated one time, “playing AAU ball is kind of like playing in the NBA, you play a lot of games.” Plus the competition is on another level because everyone is just as good. Kut: Who would you say is most influential people in your life? Brent: My dad (Bobby Butler) and my mother (Cyrillyn Butler) are the most influential. My parents prepared me well and watching my dad play football with the Falcons he explains to me how it can transverse into any sport. I thank GOD that I have both of my parents in my life and they always give me wisdom on life. My three younger brothers who look up to me so I watch what I do and try to lead by example. Kut: What does it mean to be an Atlanta Celtic? Brent: It means a lot. You are not just an athlete you are a student athlete. They make sure you get your grades, it’s a family over there and they get players into college? I thank the world for Coach Wallace Prather because he is the one that got Fordham interest in looking at me. I will rep the Celtics to the grave. Kut: What improvement did you make on your game over the summer? Brent: I worked on my jump shot, mid-range shot, handles and you can always work on your defense. Kut: Who is your favorite player in the NBA? Why? Brent: Stephon Marbury. I like his style of play. He is a scoring point guard and he knows how to distribute the rock. He wants to win and he demands that on the floor. Kut: If you had the opportunity to sit down with any person for a moment, who would it be and why? Brent: I would say Jesus. My favorite bible verse is John 3:16. Kut: What’s your favorite throw back? Brent: Pistol Pete. I got like 3 of these. If I had to be like any player he would be the one. Kut: Nike, Reebok & Adidas? Brent: I am a Celtics person but Nike. You can’t beat Nike. Kut: Sean Jean or Roca Wear? Brent: Sean Jean Kut: What’s the last CD you purchase? Brent: Lil Wayne Kut: What’s your favorite food? Brent: Pizza Kut: Jennifer Lopez, Halle Berry and Janet Jackson? Brent: Halle Berry Kut: Denali, Escalade and Ferrari? Brent: Escalade Kut: Thanks for hanging out On Da Bricks and do it big in NY! Brent: No problem, thanks.
John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life"
