Look out! They’re coming!

Macon Coliseum – Macon, GA

The Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy Lady Warriors are making a name for themselves alerting everyone to the fact that they’re one of the top girls basketball teams in the state barring none.

SACA took it to a physical Pacelli team in their state final four matchup on Wednesday at the Macon Coliseum as the crowd got a chance to observe one of the most talented young teams in the state as the Lady Warriors manhandled the Lady Vikings 48-43.

The Lady Warriors broke on the court immediately establishing their physical dominance led by 5-11 sophomore La`Tanya Scott and 6-1 freshman Mariah Chandler to make the going pretty tough for the Lady Vikings throughout the contest.

SACA jumped off to a 10-9 first period lead with 5-5 sophomore Brianna Brown and 5-6 sophomore Precious Friend wreaking havoc on the Lady Vikings’  offensive backcourt while Scott and Chandler strangled Pacelli’s offensive front to take a 10-6 lead with 1:17 left in the period.

SACA was unable to score for the rest of the period and the Lady Vikings pulled within one point on a WNBA trey from the hands of 5-2 sophomore guard Shantavia Morgan bringing the period to a close with SACA in the lead 10-9.

The Lady Warriors went on a 9-2 run in the second period with abandon board play by Scott and Chandler while Brown put on her stocking cap swiping the ball from the Pacelli guards with her quick feet and fast hands to go in at the half with a 19-11 lead.

Pacelli’s highly touted junior guard, Sequoyah Griffin, Had a rough go of it in the first half picking up three fouls while scoring only one basket leaving the Lady Vikings looking and wondering where were their points going to come from.

Although SACA continued to keep the lead after the break, Pacelli found solice in Morgan who stepped up to fill in for Griffin from the floor while 6-1 junior center Brandi Hollingsworth came to life on the boards keeping the Lady Vikings hanging around going into the fourth period only behind by three points.

SACA never gave up their lead despite the effort the Lady Vikings put forth. The Lady Warriors had made their minds up that this was their game with Scott going berserk on the boards and from the charity stripe dropping in four consecutive crucial free throws to give SACA the win and a chance at their first state title this Friday against Atkinson County at the Macon Coliseum.
