McEachern captures Region 5-5A Championship
Adams set to defend 1600 crown in Albany

Marietta High School – Marietta, GA

Sprayberry’s Taylor Adams doubled in the meet winning the 800 and 1600 Meters.
McEachern’s blazing freshman star Lacresha Styles captured the Long Jump crown on Monday in Day1 of the Region 5-5A Track & Field Championships and then came back on Tuesday and pulled up after edging teammate Michelle Marble in the 100 Meter finals. Styles was carried off the track and scratched from the 200 Meter’s which she was co-favored to win.

Despite the loss of Styles the “Lady Indians” held on to fight off home standing Marietta to capture the 2006 Region 5-5A Track & Field Championship. The McEachern relay teams produced 22 big points using alternate runners and they needed every point to hold off Marietta 129 points to 117 points. Kennesaw Mountain finished third wit 62.5 points.

The first 2 finishers in each event advance to the State Championships in Albany, GA next weekend.

Sprayberry’s Taylor Adams doubled in the meet winning the 800 and 1600 Meters. Adams is the states defending 1600 Meter champion. By winning the 800 Meters she will also get a chance to take care of some unfinished business in the 800 Meters where she finished 2nd in the state championship last year.

In the 200 Meters, South Cobb’s Ashley Harris (infront) edged McEachern’s Michelle Marble (far left).
In the 100 Meter Hurdles Campbell’s Jasmine Edgerson exploded to the 1st hurdles and it was all she wrote as she blistered the track in a time of 14.74 seconds to capture the gold. Marietta’s Christie Leverette who just made it to the meet on time after visiting the doctor to take care of a bad hamstring just edged teammate Brandi Jefferson for 2nd place. On Monday Leverette captured the High Jump gold medal.

In the 200 Meters, South Cobb’s Ashley Harris and McEachern’s Michelle Marble hit the curve together and battled all the way to the finish line before Harris eked out the win to take the gold medal.

Takisha Parham from McEachern won the gold in the Triple Jump and silver in the Long Jump
Sprayberry’s Kristin Smith stamped her ticket back to the state meet winning the gold in the Shot Put, she finished 5th in the state championships last years. Tonisa Walters from McEachern will also make the trip to Albany finishing second. Smith is also going to be representing in the Discus after finishing 2nd to Kennesaw Mountain’s Stephanie Jergel who won the gold.

Takisha Parham from McEachern will be accompanying several of her teammates to the states after she won the gold in the Triple Jump and silver in the Long Jump. Parham finished out of the medal contention in the Triple Jump at last years state meet but look for that to change this time around.

Marietta’s Brandi Jefferson, who was edged out for a spot in the 100 Hurdles will get her chance at the state meet in the Triple Jump after finishing second to Parham.

Kennesaw Mountain’s Kimber Shealy finished 7th in last year state meet with a vault of 8’-6”, she captured the gold yesterday soaring 10’-7”, so I know she’s looking for some “Get-Back” at this years championships. Karlyn Harris from Marietta makes the trip after finishing in 2nd place.

Another “Lady Blue Devil” who has some unfinished business in Albany is Aisha-Maree Fraizer who just missed medaling in the 400 Meters, finishing 4th. Last year winning 400 Meter time in the state championships was 56.16, in winning the region gold Fraizer ran a 55.47. Teammate Aiesha Brooks finished 2nd and will also travel to Albany. Fraizer will also compete in the 800 Meters along with Adams.
