4SHOT Sports Street Talk - "Live in L.A." L.A. "Keeping It Real" with John Overton John Overton: A 6-0 Sr. Point Guard at Buford High School in Buford, GA. I first spotted “O” a few years ago as a skinny freshman at the GHSA State Semi-Finals against Greenville H.S., even though he didn’t play a lot you could see when he was in the game he worked hard and tried to make things happen. Well “O” is now a rising senior with muscles and a quick first step and is coming off of a big summer that has his stocking rising fast. I got a chance to sit down with “O” for a little session of “Keeping It Real”.
John: “My mom and dad have been for me growing up, but in terms of basketball mainly my dad and other people like Coach Kevin Cantwell (AAU coach) and Brian Harmon (friend/instructor).” L.A.: “What has been one of the most memorable moments in your career so far?
John: “I tore my MCL as a freshman in a varsity high school basketball game.” L.A.: What is the strongest part of your game? John: “My point guard skills (ball handling, shooting, passing, etc..)” L.A.: “What do you think you need to work on to take your game to the next level?” John: “My the off-ball anticipation, that’s the weakest part of my game.” L.A.: “What type of personal and or team goals have you set for next season?” John: “I’d like to definitely win a state championship, but in terms of personal I just want to play the best I can in every aspect of the game every game. I really want to just be consistently impressive all year.” L.A.: “Who has been one of the toughest players you have had to guard and who is the best high school player you personally have ever seen?” John: “The toughest player I have ever guarded was probably Chris Allen. The best player I have every played against in competition would be Dwight Howard.” L.A.: “Without tipping your hand, give me the names of some colleges that you would like to play for?” John: “Well I’ve been a Kentucky fan since I was little, but I really just want to go where I can make an impact immediately and I also want to go where I can play my game; which is fast and up-tempo.” L.A.: “Tell me something about yourself that people wouldn’t know by just looking at you? John: “I’m a very strong Christian, God is the most important thing in my life.” L.A.: “Do you have a nickname?” John: “Johnny O” L.A.: “How does summer ball (AAU) differ from the regular season?” John: “AAU is a lot less strict and if you’re on a good team then you play better competition.” L.A.: “Most AAU Teams have players that play in their natural position unlike in high school where you usually play out of position. What position do you think you would like to play at the next level?” John: “Point Guard” L.A.: “Are you a Player or a BALLER, now at 4SHOT we think Players just go out on the court and play like every other player on the court. Now a BALLER can take over the game, not in a selfish way but they can dominate at “a whole nother’ level?” John: “Baller…I’m very competitive and if my team needs someone to take over and make things happen, then ill step up and do it. I’m not afraid to fail.” John: “Jesus Christ...because he’s my Lord and Savior and there’s definitely no one else more interesting and influential than him.” L.A.: “If you were not playing basketball what would you be doing now?”
L.A.: “What is your favorite TV Show and Movie?” L.A.: “What type of music do you like and do you have a favorite artist or group?” John: “Rap mostly, favorite artist is probably 2PAC.” L.A.: “What type of sneakers do you like to sport?” John: “Low top air forces and usually Jordan basketball shoes.” L.A.: “What type of cloths do you like to wear?” John: “Usually jeans and a collard shirt. Maybe like a basketball camp shirt of something sometimes.”
L.A.: “Who’s your favorite player?”
L.A.: “What type of hobbies do you have?” L.A.: “John, thank you for your time, it has been my pleasure to be able to “Keep It Real” with you.” If you want to “Keep it Real" on Street Talk …holla at me This is Larry “L.A.” Williams …PEACE! © Copyright 2006 by 4SHOT Sports |
