4SHOT Sports Football - 2006 Week 5 Recaps Well, we’re midway through the season and for a lot of teams, it’s “show me” time. It’s time for teams to start separating themselves and establishing who will be the frontrunners as we head into the second half of the season. Let’s take a look back at the week that was to see who did what. Wheeler vs. Final Score: Wheeler 14 – John Colter put Wheeler up in the third quarter with a 38-yard scoring run. That would be score when a decisive moment would occur for both teams in the fourth quarter. With the Hornets facing first and goal at the Wheeler 5, it looked as if the Hornets would continue their winning ways. But the Wildcat defense dug deep and stopped RB Alex Daniel on four consecutive running plays. Two plays later from their own two-yard line, RB Corey Tower broke loose. There’s 100 yards on a football field, you do the math. Tower, who finished with 148 yards on the ground, put the icing on the cake and an L in the loss column for the Hornets.
Buford vs. GAC Final Score: Buford 20 – GAC 7 Buford (5-0) had beaten GAC (4-1) in six consecutive matchups and King may have been the spark needed to end the Spartans woes against the Wolves. Not tonight. Buford has taken seven straight from the Spartans and it was clear early that Buford was a team on a mission. The Wolves jumped out to a 14-0 halftime lead and never even thought about looking back. The Wolves stymied the GAC offensive game to the point that a trick play was the only the Spartans could get on the scoreboard. King threw a halfback pass to Johnathan Dunagan on fourth down on the Buford nine yard line. GAC tried to catch the Wolves off guard with an onside kick but Buford wasn’t fooled. Buford then matter-of-factly went on an 11 play scoring drive that crushed the GAC home crowd.
Final Score: Harrison 21 – Since
Creekside vs. Final Score: Creekside 32 – Woodward 0 Creekside's Mr. All-Everything QB, Eric Berry, continued his dominance over his high school foes and led his Creekside Seminoles (5-0) to an easy win over the Woodward Academy War Eagles (4-1).
Norcross vs. Peachtree Ridge Final Score: Norcross 6 – Peachtree Ridge 3 In what was clearly a defensive battle, the Norcross Blue Devils (5-0) gave themselves yet another boost in the Region 7-AAAAA rankings with a win over the Peachtree Ridge Lions (3-2). The Lions could do very little against the stout Blue Devil defense. Late in the game, Peachtree Ridge had a chance to either tie or take the lead, but Norcross simply was not having it. Peachtree Ridge had negative yards on three consecutive plays as the Norcross defense saw to it that the win was well in hand.
Blessed Trinity vs. Chamblee Final Score: Chamblee 36 – Blessed Trinity 10 Friday night, Chamblee star running back Roddy Jones had fun. He opened the game with a 95-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. He then added three more rushing touchdowns to help the Bulldogs coast to easy win. With Jones finishing with 164 yards rushing and QB Warren Norman chipping 142, Chamblee (5-0) ran over and through the Blessed Trinity defense. Blessed Trinity (3-1) found themselves in a hole early and just simply couldn’t recover.
North Clayton vs. Final Score:
Centennial vs. Kell Final Score: Kell 31 – Centennial 17 Kell’s Jonathan Dwyer rushed for 307 yards. I think that about says it all right there.
