Bulldogs stay perfect and exact revenge on rival

Williams leads Bulldogs to first 6-0 in 26 years.

After losing to the Dunwoody Wildcats in last years upset of the year. The Chamblee Bulldogs looked ready to take a bite out of the Wildcats with a revenge factor. The Bulldogs would be lead by all state quarterback Garrett Williams, and a rushing threesome that had cold dish of revenge ready to be served up to the Wildcats.  Williams was looking to lead the Bulldogs to their first 6-0 start in 26 years.

After walking into the stadium and feeling the rush of the rival fans bellowing out chants and cheers back and forth, the first half was pretty much a letdown.  Although Chamblee showed that they had the ability to run the ball and control the clock, the crowd seemed to fizzle.  With under six minutes left in the half, the Bulldogs finally hit paydirt on a run up the middle by senior tailback Warren Norman.  And that was all the Bulldog faithful needed to back on their feet.

On the ensuing kickoff, Chamblee had the Wildcats on the ropes after forcing and recovering a fumble on Dunwoody’s 30 yard line.  A couple of loss of yardage plays and a costly personal foul pushed the Bulldogs back to the Dunwoody 46, but Williams gathered his troops and connected on a 33-yard strike that had Chamblee knocking on the door once again.  The Wildcats would not break as they stalled the Bulldog offense and forced a missed 32-yard field goal attempt.

In the second half, Chamblee would have their way.  The Wildcats mishandled the opening kickoff of the second half and the Bulldogs took over at the nine yard line and that would prove to be the back-breaker as Williams would call his own number and score on a naked bootleg from five yards out to put the Bulldogs up comfortably, 14-0.

Chamblee’s defense put the clamps on the Wildcat offense all night.  Senior running back, Cameron Ford, found himself stymied on just about every attempt.  Any hint of daylight was quickly closed by a swarming Bulldog defense that held Dunwoody to only 125 yards of total offense. 

Chamblee would continue to run the show on the ground.  Led by Norman, the Bulldogs accumulated over 200 yards on the ground.  Malcolm Beyah and Darius Jones also put their game on display when they had their hands on the ball.  All three backs were quick to holes and quick to hit get around the edge.  Beyah broke loose for a 19-yard run late in the third quarter and capped the scoring in the fourth with a 10-yard reception from Williams to put the Bulldogs up 27-0.

Chamblee’s point total of 27 was far less than the points they’ve put up thus far this season but the most important numbers are 6 and 0 as Chamblee continued to move up in Region 5B-AAA football.  Chamblee’s showing against its next two opponents, Grady and Westminister, will determine if they stay there.  Then we'll see how Williams and company really stack up.  To be continued....
