Turner County “Rebels” vs. Hancock Central “Bulldogs” 

 

Bulldogs Claim 1-A Title

Miss three-pointer at the buzzer…

The game between the Turner County “Rebels” versus the Hancock Central “Bulldogs” would feature to new faces in the class 1-A title game. One thing for sure, a new team would be making history for their school. The edge appeared to go to the Rebels and Coach Eric Holland in the coaching department. The Bulldogs would bring in their outside shooting and paint dominance to electrify the crowd.

 

Who will be the new Class 1-A champs? Let’s see!

 

The Bulldogs would jump out to a 5-0 lead on a big three pointer by Jontarius Stanton. The Rebels would finally get on the scoreboard on a jumper by Tray Pearce with 4:52 to go in the first period and we would have ourselves a game. Both teams would play tremendous defense and the game would be close at the end of the first period with the Bulldogs up 11-7.

 

The Rebels would tie the game right before the half on 2 free throws by Kenny Moore at 20. The Bulldogs would get the last bite on a put back basket by James Watkins 22-20.

 

The Rebels would come out and tie the game on an opening half alley-oop back door to Demetrius Ewing. The Runnin’ Rebels would increase the lead on 5 consecutive points by Marquis Jackson, including a deep three-pointer 30-24 with 3:39 left in the third period. The Bulldogs would bark back to take the lead at the end of the period on a put back basket by Watkins (Dejavu) 34-33.

 

It would come down to the final period to decide who will be crown the Class 1-A champs. With the game on the line, the Bulldogs would be down by one point 44-43 with 31 seconds left in the game. The Bulldogs Stanton would convert 2 big free throws to put the game up by 3 points 46-43. Coach Eric Holland would call his last time out to set up one last play with 21 seconds left in the game. The Rebels would come out of the time out and go for a lay that was missed by Champ Spikes who had been on all game. The Bulldogs rebound the miss and Tacowan Fluellen would hit a free throw to increase the distance. The Rebels would get a steal on the inbound and almost connect on a three-pointer to tie it.  Unfortunately the night belonged to the Hancock Central Bulldogs.

 

Final Score:  Hancock Central 49 Turner County 45
