Birmingham, AL - Day 2 of the 2008 Showtime Unlimited Tournament brought out the “Who’s, Who” of college coaches also showing up on Day 2 were some of the top AAU Teams in the country; like Boo Williams, Exodus NYC, South Carolina 76er’s, Alabama Roadrunners and Essence. 4SHOT Hoops brings you the exclusive action. 

 

Day 2 (Thursday, July 10, 2008)

 

16U – Alabama Roadrunners (AL) vs. Exodus Elite (NYC)

Kaneisha Horn is another in the line of outstanding players for the AL Road Runners.
Birmingham, AL - What started out to be an exciting and competitive game between the Alabama Roadrunners and the Exodus Elite slowly but surely turned into route in favor of the Roadrunners.

Danielle Johnson was on fire from the three-point line for the Roadrunners, at games end she had knocked down 5 three-pointers as the Roadrunners went on to a lopsided win. Johnson was the games high scorer with 15 points, teammate Adrienne Webb added 14. Alexis Smith who scored 9 led Exodus.

The Final Score: Alabama Roadrunners 58 - Exodus Elite 35




14U - Exodus Black (NYC) vs. Madison Ballers (AL)

Leah Kepping did a nice job of running the point for Exodus.
Birmingham, AL – The Madison Ballers played solid defense on an explosive Exodus team and took a 20-11 lead into the half. In the second half however Exodus started to get loose, especially guard Leah Kepping. Kepping’s 9 points helped Exodus over come their 9-point deficit to come away with a thrilling win. Alexis Parker scored 9 points to lead the Ballers.

The Final Score: Exodus Black 32  - Madison Ballers 31







15U - Exodus Falcons (NYC) vs. GA Pistols

Once again Sarah Durdaller led the Pistols in scroing.
Birmingham, AL – Having to play without 2 of their top players (Natasha Dixon and Brittany Hodges) all of the remaining GA Pistols were forced to pick up their games as they took on the Exodus Falcons. The game was pretty close in the first half, Shrya Brown and flashy point guard Kayla Gholson each scored a pair of baskets to help Exodus stay close put they still trailed at the half.

Sarah Durdaller, Jasmine Williams and Christen Johnson were 3 of the players that really elevated their play for the Pistols. Johnson did a nice job on the boards while Williams and Durdaller did the bulk of the scoring with 14 and 13 points respectively as the Pistols went on to a solid 15 point win. Dominique Wilson chipped in with 8 points. Exodus got 8 points apiece from Brown and Gholson.
The Final Score: GA Pistols 52 – Exodus 37

16U - Lady Shox 16’s (TN) vs. Palmetto 76er’s (SC)

Birmingham, AL – The 76er’s didn’t waste anytime getting into this one as they jumped out to an early 20-8 lead. The Lady Shox fought back behind the shooting of Sidney Darnall and Siobhan Pride as they cut the lead to 20-13. But the 76er’s who were firing on all cylinders got stellar performances from Destiny White, Sarah Green, Trena Smith, Shawanda Horton and Erica Sumpter on both ends of the floor as they poured it on in the second half to come away with a double-figure victory.  

White, Smith, Horton and Sumpter all scored 8 points in the 76er’s win. Darnall and Pride shared game high scoring honors with 11 points for the Lady Shox

The Final Score: Palmetto 76er’s 55 – Lady Shox 33

16U - Gauchos (NJ) vs. Wichita Legends (KS)

Markel Walker goes up strong to score for the Gauchos
Birmingham, AL – When you have a piece of precious China usually you want to showcase it and that’s what the Gauchos did with their outstanding point guard China Crosby. Crosby has that uncanny ability to handle the rock, get to the hole and spot the open player. With her directing the Gauchos attack and highly touted teammates Markel Walker and Tiffany Conner handling the scoring they jumped out to a quick 8-2 lead. Undaunted the Legends behind the sweet shooting of guards Emile Blackesley and Abby Fawcett surged back to take a 12-9 lead.

The Gauchos took advantage of their decided height advantage with the inside play of 6-7 Essence Townsend, 6-4 Victoria Macauley and 6-3 Vanessa Moore started to wear on Wichita as they retook the lead 33-24 heading into the half.

Wichita finally succumb to the Gauchos talent and pressure in the second half. China Crosby continued her dazzling display of ball-handling wizardtry and court savvy and the Gauchos canned 16 free-throws on their way to a lopsided win. Crosby shared game high scoring honors with 10 points. Tiffany Conner and Markel Walker both scored 8 point for the Gauchos. Wichita’s Emile Blackesley also scored 10 points to share in the high game scoring honors.

The Final Score: Gauchos 61 - Wichita Legends 36  

 

16U - Exodus NYC versus Team Unique

Birmingham, AL - This game was the one coach Pat Summit and Vivian Stringer came to see. The Exodus was stacked with future Rutgers commitment 6’4 center Christine Huber and Tennessee hopeful Shenneika Smith. The game would start fast as Huber would score on the inbound pass to put team Exodus on the boards. Shenneika would help out by draining numerous three pointers and Team Unique had a tough hill to climb. Smith would finish the game with the only double-digit score of 12 points for Exodus. Final Score: Exodus 57  - Team Unique 27  


 

 

 

15U - Essence versus Florida Bearcats

Birmingham, AL - Team Essence would take a early lead on the Lady Bearcats out of Oviedo Florida 14-8 with 10:12 left in the first half on a lay up by Myeisha Hall. Numerous turnovers by the Lady Bearcats would pay costly as team Essence went on a 12-2 run moving the score to 26-10 with 6:05 left in the first half. Combo guard Michelle Woods and Dominique Fowler would lead the way with 8 of the 12 points on the run. Essence would take a 35 point lead into the half 50-15. At the end of the day, team Essence would be too much for their Florida mates. Michelle Woods 20 points would lead Essence.
The final score: Essence 64 - Bearcats 25.  

 

  

16U - Alabamea Twisters versus NorCal Elite

Birmingham, AL - The Twister would have to catch the Elite as Ahjalee Harvey would score the first points on a lay-up to get things off to a fast start 2-0. The Twisters Karneshia Garrett would answer back with a shot off the class to tie the game. Both teams would go back and forth until Alle Moreno would drain two three-pointers to put the Elite up 21-17. The Twisters head coach Gerard Johnson would call a timeout to settle his girls and break the Elite momentum. The Elite would take a small lead into the half 30-27. The Twisters Jessica Merritt turned her game up as she broke down the defense to tie the game up at 33. The ladies from Dante Circle California would come away with this victory by 9 points 56-47.

 

16U - Alabama Roadrunners versus Exodus Falcons

Birmingham, AL - The Roadrunners would have a low scoring affair to start their game against the Exodus Falcons from New York. The Falcons would be up 10-7 with 7:15 to go into the first half when J. Pickens for the Roadrunners would drain 2 free throws to close the gap 10-9. The Roadrunners seemed unstable as the Falcons took the lead into the half 20-13. In the second half Allysia Rohler would drain 3 three-pointers to extend the lead for the Falcons. Rohler would finish the game with an team high 9 points. The Roadrunners wouldn’t go away as J. Pickens and N. Fillmore would contribute 10 points each in the lost.  

The Final Score:  Exodus 48 Alabama Roadrunners 42

 

 

15U - Gauchos versus Georgia Pistols

Birmingham, AL - The game between the Georgia Pistols versus the NY Gauchos got off to a early start with a three-pointer from Briana Brown. The Pistols had no answer for Brown as she nailed her third three-pointer on the way to a game high 21 points. The Gauchos would go up 34-20 at the half.

 

In the second half the Pistols coach Percy Gordon would call for the full court press to get back into the game. The press would only work in spurts, as Alvida Clemmens would continue to rain jumpers on the way to her game total of 13 points for the Gauchos. The Pistols would hang tough as they cut the lead down to 1 point 54-53 with 3:01 left in the game. The Pistols made a valiant effort with 10 points from Dominique Wilson and Sarah Durdaller. Great coaching job by coach Percy who keep his girls head in the game in the lost. Taylor Palmer also contributed 10 points for the Gauchos.

The Final Score: Gauchos 56 - Georgia Pistols 54

  

14U - Lady Shox versus Arkansas Mavericks

Birmingham, AL - The Lady Shox game against the Arkansas Mavericks was one of the most exciting games of the day. Both teams would battle back and forth, right down to the wire. Shawnessi Arnold would knock down a three-pointer to close the lead to 1 point 49-48. The Shox would hold on to the ball on the inbound to run the clock out to seal the victory. Chandler Cooper 15 points and Bashaana Graves 12 points for the Lady Shox. Shawnessi Arnold scored 16 points, Ashley Spaletta 12 points and Jerica James 10 points for the Arkansas Mavericks.
