DeKalb Co. in Beijing Taylor, Trammell & Taylor set their sites on Olympic Gold

Three former DeKalb County high school track & field champions are in Beijing, China seeking gold as in the Olympic Gold Medal. Dee Dee Trotter from Cedar Grove H.S. and a pair of former Southwest DeKalb Panthers; Angelo Taylor and Terrance Trammell are in Beijing to once again represent the United States in the 2008 Olympics.
All have previous Olympic experience, Trotter who was the state’s 200-meter champion as a senior at Cedar Grove H.S.; she also anchored their winning 4x400 relay team. At the 2004 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships Trotter won the 400-meter crown competing for the “Lady Vols” at the Univ. of Tennessee. Later that year she added a gold medal to her trophy case when as a member of the U.S.A. Olympic Team in Athens, she ran a leg in the winning 4x400 meter relay team. At this year’s Olympic Games Trotter will be competing in the 400 meters and possibly the 4x400 meter relay.

Trammell, who is one of the greatest high school hurdlers to ever come out of the state of Georgia captured back-to-back 110 meter hurdle crowns in 1996 & 1997 and along with Taylor led the Panthers to track state championships in 1995 and 1996. Trammell college career at University of South Carolina was awesome, in all he captured 6 NCAA Championships.
In the 2000 and 2004 Olympics; Trammell captured the silver medal in the 110-meter hurdles; by the way Trammell also captured the 300 intermediate hurdles championship in 1997. At this year’s Olympic Games Trammell will be competing in the 110 hurdles and the 100-meter dash.

Taylor is the veteran of the group when it comes to Olympic appearances; he will be making his third trip to “The Show”. Also a 3 time Georgia H.S. championship Taylor dominated the 300 intermediate hurdles winning the state crown in 1995 and 1996. His other title came in 1996 when doubled up also winning the triple jump. While attending Georgia Tech he captured the NCAA indoor 400-meter championship and the outdoor 400-meter hurdle crown.
This will be Taylor’s third trip to the Olympics; at the 2000 Olympic Games he captured gold in the 400-meter hurdles and as a member of the 4x400 meter relay team. At the 2004 Olympic Games he finished 4th in the 400-meter hurdles. At this tear’s Olympic Games Taylor will once again be competing in the 400-meter hurdles.
