Etowah “Eagles” vs. Starr’s Mill “Panthers”

Etowah rips Starr’s Mill 47-24

Boykin rushes for 275 yards and 3 TD’s

Etowah RB-Ryan Boykin had a career day against the Starr's Mill defense.
Atlanta – The Eagles from Etowah H.S. didn't waste any time soaring into the 2008 season, especially senior running back Ryan Boykin who ripped up the Starr’s Mill defense with several big runs. Quarterback James Harris, who is just a junior also had a big half, he hooked up with WR-Taylor Majors on a pair of long gainers; the later resulted in 16-yards and touchdown. The PAT by kicker Jordan “Golden Shoes” Miramonti gave Etowah an early 7-0 lead.

The Etowah defense was equally as anxious to get after some new meat, led by LB-Ryker Goodwell, LB-Kyle Beasley, DE-Justin Blosser, DL-Tyler Thomas and DL-Blake Pearce they box in the Starr’s Mill offense and forced a punt.

On the Eagles next possession Boykin ripped off another 20-yard gain to give Etowah a first-down on the Starr’s Mill 30-yard line. A counter play to RB-Jason Holdway resulted in a 26-yard touchdown run by the sophomore. Miramonti’s PAT made it 14-0 with 4:29 left in the quarter.

Needing desperately to make something happen the Panthers quarterback Myles Jay went to work, a short pass to WR-Jeffery Greene who made a nice run after the catch gave Starr’s Mill a big first-down out to the 44-yard line. A 23-yard pass play from Greene to Terrell Tripp moved the ball to Etowah’s 33-yard line as the first-quarter came to an end.

Two plays into the second-quarter and the Panther’s got a short 4-yard scamper by TB-Spencer Penson for their first touchdown of the season. The PAT by K-Chris Ward cut the lead to 14-7.

The Offical is right on the paly as Starr's Mill RB-Spencer Penson crosses the goal line for a touchdown.
Boykin continued his assault on a 100-yard first-half ripping off 24-yards to the Starr’s Mill 21-yard line. On the next play Boykin was rewarded for his efforts with a 21-yard touchdown run around the right-end giving the Eagles a 20-7 lead heading into the half. Etowah missed the PAT. Boykin would finish the half with 127 yards and a touchdown

Terrell Tripp gave Starr’s Mill a big lift as the third-quarter got underway by returning the kick-off 90-yards for a touchdown. Ward’s PAT cut the lead to 20-14.

Harris and the Eagles came right back, two big quarterback keepers resulted in 54-yards moving the ball to the Panthers 25-yard line. Boykin then ripped off 25-yards and a touchdown, his second of the game pushing the Eagles lead back up to thirteen, 27-14 with 9:13 left in the third-quarter.

Starr’s Mill LB-Stephen Roberts was making plays all over the field for the Panthers as they slowed down the Eagles offensive attack forcing them to punt from their own end-zone. A bad punt gave Starr’s Mill excellent field position on the Eagles 30-yard line.

Etowah QB-James Harris did a nice job of directing the Eagles offense.
Adam Holley started the third-quarter at quarterback for Starr’s Mill and the sophomore went right to work going up top to Dan Ellis for 30-yards and a touchdown. Ward’s PAT cut the lead to 27-21 with 5:02 left in the third-quarter.

Just when it looked like the Panthers might get back into the game Boykin broke their hearts as the senior ripped off a 70-yard touchdown jaunt right up the middle. The score and PAT pushed the Eagles lead back up to thirteen, 34-21 as the third-quarter came to an end.

Early in the forth-quarter Boykin scored his third touchdown of the game on a 30-yard as the Eagles started to pull away, leading 41-21.

The Etowah defense which had been solid the entire game was finally rewarded when SS-Jordan Padgett picked off Jaye and returned the pick 55-yards for a touchdown giving the Eagles a demanding 47-21 lead and thus slamming the cage on the Panthers by a final score of 47-24.
