4SHOT Sports Football - 2008 Corky Kell Classic The Georgia Dome - Atlanta, GA Brookwood “Broncos” vs. Walton “Raiders” Walton holds off Brookwood 14-9 Raiders quickness nullifies Broncos bulk The Brookwood defense forced the first turnover of the game when S-Wade Brogdon, who is the Broncos “All-Everything” performer picked off Walton QB-Ray Rayburn on their first offensive series of the game and returned the pick 33-yards to the Walton 35-yard line. The Walton defense which was anchored by LB-Brandon Burrows, LB-Scott Willoch and DE-David Paulsen closed the corral on the Broncos, forcing them into a long field goal attempt that was no good. The stalemate ended late in the second-quarter when the Raiders behind the running of tailback Michael Boydston drove the ball down to the Broncos 29-yard line. A pass from Rayburn to FB-Dylan Tante picked up 13-yards to the seventeen. RB-Andre Walkine came in to spell Boydston and ripped off a tough 12-yard run to the five. A couple of plays later Boydston walked 5-yards untouched into the endzone for the touchdown. Kicker Brady Biggers booted the PAT to give the Raiders a 7-0 lead that they took into the half. The Brookwood defense, which was led by LB-Chris Martin, LB-Alan King, LB-David Cooper, DL-Kellen Williams and Brogdon manned up and forced a Walton punt. A 55-yard run by Lane put Brookwood in great field position at the Walton 22-yard line with 5:32 left in the third-quarter; the drive was thwarted when Walton WR/DB-Price Garrett made a tough stop on Lane on third-down. Wade Brogdon came in and kicked a 33-yard field goal to put Brookwood on the board as they cut the lead to 7-3. Needing to make something happen Brookwood got an exciting 24-yard run by WB-LaSalle Ledlum that moved the ball out near midfield with 8:35 left on the clock. Facing a forth-down and two the Broncos tried to roll-out QB-Ben McLane but the Walton defense forced a fumble that was recovered by DE-Chris Mooney on the Brookwood 40-yard line. With just over 4:00 minutes left to play Brookwood mounted a drive, moving the ball to the Walton 21-yard line. Facing a third and twelve McLane scrambled for 8 yardsand came up short of the first-down. Forced to go for it on forth-down Brookwood’s Head Coach Mark Crews insert QB-Kent Rollins, who made a gutsy run on a quarterback keeper, breaking several tackles on his way to a 12-yard touchdown run. A two-point conversion was stopped leaving the score at 14-9 with 2:57 left to play.
