Chamblee vs. Douglass

Chamblee rips Douglass

Jones scores 3 TD’s in win

North DeKalb Stadium - Chamblee, GA

Chamblee speedster Darius Jones scored 3TD's in the win over Douglass.
Chamblee – In front of a jacked-up home crowd Head Coach Mike Collins’ and his Chamblee Bulldogs hit the North DeKalb Stadium grass and ripped the once feared “Astros” from Douglass High School in Atlanta. Even though it was just the first game of the season this Chamblee “TEAM” showed that last season was no fluke and that this season they have some unfinished business to take care of.

It also didn’t hurt that the Bulldogs cause having a 5-7, 170lbs speedster by the name of Darius Jones running the ball. Jones who rushed for over 600-yards last season and scored 10 touchdowns burned Douglass for 3 touchdowns in leading the Bulldogs to victory tonight.

The Bulldogs from Chamblee aren’t a very big team but man are they fast and they wasted little time showing Douglass that it’s not the size of the Bulldog but the fight in the Bulldog that counts; with quarterback Garrett Williams at the helm Chamblee ran up twenty first-quarter points on a Douglass team that I know their coaches and fans couldn’t believe what was happening. It was a good thing the Douglass Band was there to keep their fans entertained.

The heat wasn't a friend to anyone, just ask Douglass linemen Jeremy Wallace (76) and Jerome Bernard (59).
Running a mixture of counters and traps Chamblee was able to spring loose Darius Jones on an inside reverse that the speedy wide-out raced 42-yards with for a touchdown. The PAT by kicker Joshua Benton made the score 7-0 with 7:42 left in the first quarter.

The score quickly became 14-0 when Garrett raced 75-yards untouched on an option play. Jones would score again on a 17-yard burst up the middle to push the lead up to 20-0; Benton missed the PAT.

While the offense was doing their thing the defense led by LB-Joshua Brown, DB-Shawn Martin, DB-Harold Sills, LB-Artemus Norman and DL-Barry Stafford was harassing and frustrating the Astros offense every change they got. Martin’s interception helped turn back one of the few sustained drives Douglass had in the first half.

Several Chamblee defenders haul down Douglass RB-Michael Patrick.
In the second quarter the defense came up big again when DB-Dakarai Penn scooped up a loose ball and raced 51-yards for a touchdown as the Bulldogs faithful went crazy. Chamblee finished off an outstanding first half of play getting a 42-yard field goal from long kicker Jared Clarke to take a commanding 30-0 lead into the half.

Douglass showed some fire in the third-quarter scoring a pair of touchdowns, one on a 2-yard plunge by FB-Marcus Gamble and the other on a 60-yard joint by Tommy Gooden.

Chamblee countered Douglass with two-second half touchdowns of their own; the electrifying “Mr. Jones” finished off and outstanding game with his third touchdown of the game on a 27-yard run. Senior running back Warren Norman who rushed for over 800-yards last season also capped off a nice game with an explosive 72-yard run.
