Columbia celebrates Homecoming win

Anthony rushes for over 300 yards with 2 TD's

Columbia's RB-Nathaniel Anthony was the Homecoming Hero of the Day with his outstanding performance.

Decatur, GA – Homecoming for seniors is always a memorable event but when your playing in the big homecoming game and you happen to go off that makes it double memorable and for Columbia H.S. running back Nathaniel Anthony it was that kind of homecoming. Anthony a 5-10, 180lb senior tailback ran the ball 24 time racking up over 300 yards and he scored two touchdowns in leading the Eagles to victory in front of a big homecoming crowd.

You could sense that Anthony was on his way to a big game, on Columbia’s first drive he ripped off runs of 14 and 43 yards to put the Eagles in scoring position at the Druid Hills six-yard line. Quarterback Willie Favors would finish off the drive with a quarterback sneak. Anthony scored the two-point conversion to make the score 8-0.

As expected Druid Hills with quarterback Jay Cromwell at the helm came out throwing the ball, Cromwell hooked up WR-Marcel Baugh for 16-yards and a first down out to the Eagles forty-eight. The two hooked up again a few plays later for another first-down at the twenty-four. The drive came to a sudden halt when Columbia’s DL-Shanard Buchanan and DL-Rodrquez Bussey sacked Cromwell for a big loss that forced a punt.

Anthony went right back to work for the Eagles busting loose down the sidelines for 39-yards to the Druid Hills twenty-four. Columbia moved the ball to the eleven before the Red Devils defense led by DE-Jonathan Dupree, LB-Jeffery Jennings, DB-Will Smith and LB-Gordon Foulike rose up and stopped them as the first quarter came to an end.

As the second quarter got underway Cromwell connected with his favorite target WR-Byron Dickerson, who just happens to be one of the top receivers in the state on consecutive passes moving the ball into Columbia territory. A 22-yard reception by WR-John Foster moved the ball to the Eagles thirty-two. Cromwell then connected with Baugh who made a couple of nice moves after the catch and raced 22-yards for an apparent touchdown but a clipping call wiped out the play and ended their drive.

With the half winding down the Eagles mounted a drive. A 7-yard run by Anthony converted a forth and six to keep the drive alive. Columbia would finish off the drive when Favors hit RB-Brain Holloway with a screen pass that he turned into a 17-yard touchdown run. The Eagles took a 14-0 lead into the half.

The second half provided a lot more action as Druid Hills made a strong comeback. Cromwell continued to fill the air with footballs as they cut the Columbia lead to 21-13.

It was only fitting that when it was time to close the door on Druid Hills that the honor would go to Columiba’s homecoming hero Nathaniel Anthony, Anthony finished off the Red Devils with a sweet 24-yard burst to record his second touchdown of the game as Columbia recorded went on to record their forth win of the season against two losses. It also keeps their divisional championship aspirations alive at 2-1 in the division.

On the other side the loss really hurt Druid Hills as they drop to 3-4 and 1-3 in the division.
