Eastside upset Carrollton
Eastside quarterback Justin Wray threw for more yards than the Trojans entire offense could muster completing 10 of 13 passes for 177 yards. Wray completed 8 of 12 passes for 176 yards including a 70-yard screen to wide receiver Antarius Terrell for the first score of the game and the Eagles took a 7-0 lead after Yanard Tinker’s extra point with 4:55 showing on the clock in the first period. Wray later went 24 yards on a QB keeper for a score that put Carrollton in a hole they couldn’t dig themselves out of and the Eagles had a 14-0 lead after Tinker booted his second extra point point of the game. The Eagle defense continued their dominance to go in the locker room at the half in front by two touchdowns.
However, the Trojans made some adjustments at halftime to open up with a 67-yard drive in six plays that ended with Trojan quarterback Dallas Dickey going into the end zone on a dive play with just three ticks gone off the clock in the third. The Eagles came right back to score on their second possession of the second half needing just three plays to go 80 yards with Broderick "The Diesel" Alexander plowing over and through the Trojan defense on a 73-yard run to get the Eagles to the Trojan 1-yard line. Git Aiken finished the drive with a short jaunt around the right side for the score to give Eastside a 21-7 lead after the extra point with 2:03 left in the third.
Depending on the flip of the coin, the Eagles could be at home again Friday for the quarterfinals to play the Cairo Syrupmakers who got by Burke County 41-28 in their second round contest. Eastside ran an excellent balanced offense compiling 177 yards rushing and 177 yards passing. Alexander led all rushers with 122 yards on 10 carries, while Wray was 10 f0r 13 passing with 177 yards.
