It looked like Jonesboro had the game under control but Sprayberry kept fighting back. A lay-up by Roger Hubbard would close the gap to 23-20 with 4:18 left to play in the half.

Jonesboro went on a mini 6-1 run behind a pair of baskets from Jordan Brown to make the score 29-21 but again the Yellow Jackets responded. A put-back by Gordon cut the lead to 29-28 heading into the half.

Sprayberry would take their first lead early in the third-quarter before Jonesboro snatched it back. The teams would continue to trade baskets and the lead for most of the quarter. A three-pointer by Grayson at the end of the third-quarter would give Sprayberry a 43-42 lead.

Game 3

Blessed Trinity “Titans” vs. Lassiter “Trojans”

Lassiter thumps Blessed Trinity

Trojans just too strong

Cobb Civic Center – Marietta, GA

When Lassiter football star Phil Lutzenkirchen grabs a rebound its all his.
Marietta, GA – Lassiter senior Phil Lutzenkirchen is a highly recruited 6-4 Tight-End who has a verbal football commitment to Auburn. He is also known for making the ESPN highlight reel for a great hustle play he made in the endzone to help his team score a touchdown against Centennial this past season.

Well Saturday night he used his power and some fancy footwork in the paint to help the Lassiter basketball team blow away blessed Trinity in Game 3 of the 2008 SEBA Atlanta H.S. Classic.

It didn’t take long to see that Lassiter was just going to be too powerful and well balanced for an undersized Blessed Trinity team despite having 4SHOT Hoops All-Star 6-4 Sr.-Arris Brundidge in the line-up.

Lutzenkirchen, 6-5 Alex Gilmore and 6-4 Joey Parry neutralized Brundidge while the Trojan guard’s Blaise White, Hutson Mason and Daniel Garza schooled the Titans guards in the art of shooting and tough man-to-man defense. Perry scored 6 points and Mason knocked down a three-pointer as Lassiter opened up a 15-4 first-quarter lead.

Lassiter’s rebounding and tenacious defense gave the Blessed Trinity players problems all-night. Brundidge who averages close to 18ppg had a hard time even getting the rock the way the Trojans defense was clamping down on the Titan guards.

Blessed Trinity's Arris Brundidge was surrounded by Lassiter defenders all night.
White, who was an All-Cobb County performer last season continued to knock down shots in the second-quarter as Lassiter’s lead continued to grow. Lutzenkirchen who didn’t start the game entered and made an immediate impact scoring a couple of baskets inside as half Lassiter took a commanding 31-11 halftime lead.

Turnovers and bad execution continued to haunt Blessed Trinity in the second half much to the displeasure of Head Coach Brian Marks.

Lassiter continued to dominate the boards behind the play of Lutzenkirchen and White continued his stellar play before the Trojans Head Coach Jeremy Morris pulled his starters to give the reserves some playing time. Lassiter went on to an easy seventeen point victory.

Blaise White was named the games MVP for Lassiter and Roch Rucker garnered the honors for Blessed Trinity.

The Final Score: Lassiter 57 – Blessed Trinity 40

Scoring Recap

Lassiter: Blaise White scored a game high 17 points for the Trojans. Joey Parry added 13 and Phil Lutzenkirchen finished with 11.

Hawks remain undefeated

Cobb Civic Center – Marietta, GA

Hillgrove's Darius Baugh looks off two Harrions defenders on his way to the basket.
Marietta, GA – The Hawks from Hillgrove H.S. are on a roll and they know it. Using a balanced attack led by Darius Baugh, Mike Lawrence and Millan Rodrigo they dismantled Harrison H.S. to remain undefeated at 10-0.

The game started out pretty evenly as both teams pushed the ball up and down the floor. Vince Martin and Carl Washington scored 8 of Harrison’s 13 first quarter points while Hillgrove used a more balanced attack. Late in the half Hillgrove began to turn up the heat on both ends of the floor. Baugh, Millan and Lawrence continued to handle the scoring load for the Hawks as they opened up a 30-22 halftime lead.

In the third-quarter Belli put on a three-point shooting display drilling three in row to help Harrison stay within striking distance.

Harrison's Vince Martin pulls up for two with Stefan Julian's hand in his face.
Heath Houston a 6-8 junior for Hillgrove had been pretty quite up to this points but he started to make his presence felt on the boards and in the paint scoring 6 points. Milan and Lawrence both knocked down three-pointers as the Hawks pushed their lead up to thirteen, 47-34 at the end of the third-quarter.

Turnovers really plagued Harrison in the forth-quarter as they fell further behind. Sophomore point-guard Jamal Watson came in and did a nice job for the Hoyas, he also went 4 of 4 from the free-throw line.

Marietta's Kenny Sprague sticks jumper.
Marietta, GA – Both Marietta and SACA have a history of outstanding players and teams but that was then and this is now, both squads are rebuilding and so far this season they only have 3 victories in 13 games between them. Although the talent level wasn’t quite what it use to be both teams played hard.

SACA junior Mike Murray is a nice looking player, he scored early for the Warriors as they took a 5-0 lead. Marietta stormed back behind the play of Kenny Sprague to take a 12-6 lead and never looked back. Sprague would drill his second three-pointer to put the Blue Devils up 21-9 at the end of the first-quarter.

SACA's Michael Murray is a good looking prospect, he soars to score 2 of his game high 24.
The Warriors shook off the early jitters to play much better in the second-quarter, Murray continued to carry the scoring load and got a little help from Tekele Cotton.

Marietta would maintain their advantage as Daniel Orr and James Henderson both scored a pair of baskets to help the Blue Devils take a 36-22 lead into the half.

Marietta would build on their halftime lead making some easy baskets off of turnovers in the third-quarter. SACA had a chance to cut the deficit in half as they easily got to the basket to draw fouls but they missed half of their free-throws and fell behind 56-32.

The forth-quarter was pretty much a formality for Marietta as they cruised to a stratifying fifteen point win for their second win of the season.
