4SHOT Sports 2009 ACC Tournament - Women The ACC Tournament – 2nd Round Boston College “Lady Eagles” vs. Florida State “Lady Seminoles” FSU clips Boston College’s wings Freshour & Davis-Cain combine for 40 Greensboro Coliseum – Greensboro, NC Greensboro, NC – The entire Florida State team played well but it was the scoring output from Mare Freshour and former 4SHOT Hoops and Terrell County H.S. All-Star Tanae Davis-Cain that but the “Lady Seminoles” over the top. Both players would finish the game with 20 points. FSU’s Mare Freshour stepped into the Matrix for a moment knocking down back-to-back three-pointers and she drilled another long shot to give the “Lady Seminoles” a early 10-5 lead. Carolyn Swords, Boston College’s 6-6 sophomore continued her fine tournament play scoring a pair of baskets to cut the lead to 12-11. FSU Head Coach Sue Semrau had her team swarming on defense; 6-4 Jacinta Monroe was controlling the glass and that allowed the “Lady Seminoles” guards Courtney Ward and former 4SHOT Hoops All-Star Angel Gray (Stone Mountain H.S., Stone Mountain, GA) to push the ball up the floor and kick it out to Davis-Cain, Freshour and Alysha Harvin. Davis-Cain and Gray each scored four-points in an 11-0 run by the “Lady Seminoles” that opened up a 35-19 lead with just under 4:00 minutes to play in the half. Mickel Picco would help keep the “Lady Eagles” within striking distance at 36-25 by nailing a pair of three-pointers; but FSU quickly responded running off six straight points to end the half to take a 42-25 lead into the locker room. The last three points came on a long three-pointer by Ward at the buzzer. Two other former 4SHOT Hoops All-Star contributed to the FSU lead with some meaningful minutes, Cayla Moore (Westover H.S., Albany, GA) and Christian Hunnicutt (Landmark Christian, Fairburn, GA). As the second half got underway it looked like Freshour was about to step back inside the Matrix as she quickly drilled another three-pointer. Boston College kind of got trapped into trying to play FSU’s style of ball just to try and keep up but that’s not the style of basketball they’re built for so once again they turned inside to Swords who responded with back-to-back baskets that cut the lead to 49-37. Meanwhile the ladies from Tallahassee continued to force the action. Davis-Cain like Freshour spend a little time in the Matrix as she started lighting up Boston College; a lay-up and a pair of three-pointers by the senior from Dawson, GA but the “Lady Seminoles” up 60-41. FSU would proceed to put the pedal to the metal, Ward and Freshour both connected on three-pointers as the lead continued to swell. Turnovers and fouls really started plaguing the Lady Eagles as they fell further and further behind and when Swords fouled out with just under 10:00 minutes left in the game that pretty much spelled the end of the road for the ladies from Chestnut Hill, MA. Coach Semrau rested most of her starters down the stretch in preparation for Saturday’s semifinals match-up against the Duke/Virginia winner as the “Lady Seminoles” rolled to a convincing victory.
