Washington Report: Page 8 “Money vs. Education!”

So they decided to go back. Was that a good or bad decision? Is it about the education or the money? My colleague once told me go while you’re hot. The world may never know but let’s give it a try.

Say you had the chance to go in the first round of the professional sports draft or a chance to go to college. Do you take the money or the free education? Sometimes the decision to take the money pans out when you are sure you can be productive right away and end up going back to school to complete your education. On the other hand it can be a terrible decision if you bust and end up back at home with your parents. It’s a tough decision athletes make every year. Some choose education and receive their 4 year degree before going on to their professional careers. At least with education it’s something you get to keep for a lifetime when sports are over. One thing about it, any professional sport you may play you can’t play it forever. What are the chances you make it to that top epsilon of players that really profit; which is like 1%? The money looks good right away but it’s not always the best choice. Fast money goes fast! Education is forever.

Kut’s Take: I am pro-education all day but at the same time I am a family man. If sometimes life put’s you in a situation where you have to make a decision that could improve your family’s financial woes, then you got to take it. The key to all of this is having the right people in place to help you make a wise decision. Just know that the league isn’t for everybody and some only get a warm cup of coffee (lol). That education stays hot forever.

Real Talk: Money is cool we got to have it but when you start to worship and love it, that’s when trouble comes. You can have all the money in the word and not be saved (by not confessing the Lord as savior).

Mark 8:36 -- “ For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and lose his soul.”

Matthew 6:24 -- “ No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other, You cannot serve God and money.”

Gani did the right thing by staying. That NBA money is going to always be there for him. If he goes back he increase his chance of being a top 10 or 5 pick next year.

I seen Louis Williams play and he was just a natural talent. Hickson was ok but I wasn’t super impressed. Meeks got a shot but I don’t know about his size. I hope Gani doesn’t get passed by Favors.

I agree with Phillip. If Derrick Favors comes in to Georgia Tech and out shine Gani then he hurt himself by coming back. Favors a guaranteed top 5 pick, it’s almost impossible for both to be top 10.
