4SHOT Sports Street Talk - "Live in L.A." New Birth Cathedral, Lithonia, GA
Sam's home going service was a celebration of his life. Family, friends and loved ones gathered together to cry, smile and most of all thank GOD for having allowed us the privilege to be touched in some kind of way by his son Sam J. Jones Jr. I didn't get a chance to know Sam the person only the athlete, but I knew from his fire and determination on the football field that he was a true warrior and leader. Generally when you see those type attributes in a player on the field of play most often they care over to his personal life. As I listened to farewells given by Southwest Dekalb Head Coach Buck Godfrey, teammate and best friend John Adams, another close female classmate and relative Frederick Jones it affirmed what I already had thought, Sam J. Jones Jr. was a very special young man. Sam's home going service also gave me an even deeper respect for the Southwest Dekalb Panther Family, as several past and present players, coaches, teachers, cheerleaders, schoolmates etc showed up in mass to pay their final respects for one of their own. ..... "A PANTHER for Life" Sam had received two scholarship offers, one from South Carolina State and the other from Morehouse College. According to his uncle Frederick Jones, Sam was ready to continue his education and football career at Morehouse. As a show of admiration and respect they had for Sam, the
Sam's untimely death brought together family, friends and loved ones in a way that his football heroics seemed pale in comparison as several young men and women came forth and gave their lives to Christ. In doing so they said "Farewell to Sam", not "Goodbye" knowing that one day they will all be together again in the Fathers House in heaven. So to Sam, his family and loved ones, 4SHOT Sports says farewell young man it has been an honor and privilege to have witnessed your greatness these past couple of years. Now in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, we bid you grace and peace. Larry Williams 4SHOT Sports © Copyright 2006 by 4SHOT Sports |
