Be on guard if you see a group of red clad young men walking into a gymnasium with sneakers and hooded sweat tops on because it’s really the “TROJANS” basketball team from Banneker High School in College Park, GA… that’s right and their on a roll.

The 2002-03 Banneker "Trojans" and Head Coach Hollis Bethea.
Banneker
High School
rolled through the regular season with little fan fare but other coaches knew by the end of the season that the “Trojans” were going to be a team to be reckon with if they got out of their regional tournament.

Well they blew away Towers and
Westminster to win the Region 5-AAA tournament championship and had a relatively easy time exposing of the “Indians” from Stephens County 80-65 in the 1st round of the state playoffs.

First year Head Coach Hollis Bethea’s  “Trojans” have height, speed, depth and can shoot the rock with the best of them. Their guards are very inter-changeable led by Kerrie Youmans, Marquette Northington and Micheal Harris. Banneker is also imposing across the frontline with 6-6 Tay Spann and 6-6 Chris Hall.

Throw in versatile swingman R. Walker and the rest of those very athletic Banneker ballers and the “TROJAN HORSE“ is ready to roll into the next round of play in the state playoffs. Banneker is really going to be put to the test in their 2nd round state playoff game on Thursday in the Georgia Dome against the top ranked (Class 3A) “Vikings” from
East Hall High School out of Gainesville, GA.
