StreetTalk_OliviaGibbs_hdrAs a freshman and last year as a sophomore she played a very significant role off the bench in helping the Southwest DeKalb Lady Panthers win back-to-back state titles.

When she hits the court she immediately goes into attach mode at both ends of the floor. Entering her junior year at SDW she already has D-1 offers starting to roll in; the player I'm talking about is Destinie Gibbs, better known as Olivia or to her pupils as O.G.

L.A.: Tell the “Other” players your full name, that way when they get schooled they will remember who schooled them?
Destinie: My full name is Destinie Olivia Gibbs.

L.A.: Just in case they can’t remember your full name, do you have a nickname we can throw at them?
Destinie: My nickname from middle school was O.G.

L.A.: Olivia, you just completed your sophomore year at Southwest DeKalb and already you have two state championships rings how are you going to top that?
Destinie: Its not that I'm going to try and top it, its the fact that I am going to try and continue the dynasty.

StreetTalk_OliviaGibbs_lgL.A.: Which AAU program are you affiliated with and who is the head coach?
Destinie: I'm affiliated with GA Pistols Elite.

L.A.: Are you originally from GA, if not where are you from?
Destinie: Georgia is where I am originally from.

L.A.:  Who have been some of the most influential people in your life?
Destinie: Some of the most influential people in my life besides my parents are Omar Coop, Damon Wilson, Antonio Davis, Percy Gordon , my Uncle Jake , and Aunt Vinita.

L.A.:  What are your plans for the summer as far as different basketball camps you may attend?
Destinie: I plan to attend the the UGA camp, Miami camp, and the University of Texas camp.

L.A.:  Have you ever stepped into the Matrix (that’s what 4SHOT calls the Zone) and if so how did you feel?
Destinie: I feel unstoppable. I feel my passion for the game arousing through me.

L.A.:  Who has been one of the toughest players you ever had to play against and who is the best high school player you personally have ever seen?
Destinie: Diamond Deshields qualifies for both questions. She is my bestfriend and is the next big thing. Her athletic ability and skill level is incredible.

L.A.: Tell me something about yourself that people wouldn’t know by just looking at you?
Destinie: I have a 3.9 GPA.
L.A.: “That’s what I’m talking about…do your thing O.G.!

Keeping it real!

L.A.: As an athlete is it easier to get a date or harder; if your not in high school don’t answer this question as a parent I’ll answer it for you …Forget about it (lol), no really Forget it!!!
Destinie: Because I am an athlete, it is easier for me to get a date. I prefer dating athletes and as an athlete myself we have something in common. And most times, guys have a liking  towards girls who play sports.

L.A.: You are a basketball recruiter and you are scouting you, briefly tell me what would your take would be on your game:
Destinie: She has a high basketball IQ, she has a nice shot, and knows how to finish. She needs to work on being more aggressive and getting lower on defense.

L.A.: Do you get special treatment at home because you play sports?
Destinie: No I do not get special treatment at home because I play sports. However, I do get special treatments at school.

L.A.: Who is your favorite teacher in school?
Destinie: My favorite teacher is Mr. Raymond Maple.

L.A.: Which subject do you like most and which subject do you like least?
Destinie: I enjoy World History Most and I dislike science.

L.A.: If you could change anything in the world today what would it be?
Destinie: If I could change anything in the world today, I would change the economic depression or recession.

L.A.: Ok keep it real now; do you use the fact that you are an athlete to sometimes get your way?
Destinie: I always use that.

L.A.: Keep it real, was SWD the best team in any classification in the state this year?
Destinie:  You know, there are many opinions when it comes to talking about who is the best and who isn't. But I do know our team had the mindset that we WERE the best and that no one could beat us. That's why we are reigning state champs.

L.A.: Here’s one for you how much pressure was it on you to play for that other AAU team being that your H.S. Coach is affiliated with it, lol?
Destinie: It wasn't any pressure. My parents and I chose what we thought was the best situation for me individually.

L.A.: A whistle and “The Look” while walking through the mall or the cheers of the crowd during a game, lol?
Destinie: Cheers of the crowd during the game.
